Swiggy, India’s leading food delivery and express commerce app, said on Monday that it has expanded its 10-minute food delivery service, Bolt, to over 400 cities and towns across the country.
The Bengaluru-based startup, which went public last month, said it has partnered with over 40,000 restaurants, including global chains KFC, McDonald’s and Starbucks, as well as popular local establishments for the 10-minute food delivery service. .
The service, called Bolt, delivers items that require minimal to zero preparation time, covering restaurants within a 2-kilometre radius of customers. The new offering could help Swiggy regain some of the market share in food delivery that it has ceded to its main rival, Zomato, in recent years.
The service was initially launched in Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, New Delhi, Mumbai and Pune, and is now available in smaller cities like Jaipur, Lucknow, Ahmedabad, Roorkee, Guntur and Shillong.
Swiggy says its delivery partners are not aware of the difference between Bolt and regular orders, and there are no incentives for speedy delivery. Instead, speed is enhanced through strategic restaurant partnerships and a limited 2km delivery range.
Swiggy’s move intensifies competition in India’s express commerce market, which has grown over 100% in the past year. Zomato’s Blinkit, Swiggy’s Instamart (Swiggy’s quick commerce offering), Nexus-backed Zepto and Tata-owned BigBasket are changing the way millions of Indians shop, making consumers expect instant gratification on an ever-expanding range of products.
