Notion, as my colleagues at TechCrunch found out earlier Thursday, is announcing an email client at its first “Make with Notion” user conference. Right now, Notion Mail is in preview, and at least for now, it’s more of a Gmail client than a traditional email service. The idea here, Notion says, is to build an email experience that allows users to “abandon the old ways of a rigid inbox and embrace a new way: where email works for you and your workflow.”
But when exactly Notion Mail will be launched is still a question mark. The company is only committing to “coming soon” at this point, but there is a waiting list for early access.
With the addition of Mail, Notion (which says it now has more than 100 million users) continues on its path to offering a more complete set of productivity options. After all, Notion Mail’s launch comes just a few months after the company launched its own calendar product. It is worth noting that Notion Calendar was the result of an acquisition, as the company purchased the calendar application Cron in 2022.
Likewise, Notion recently acquired Skiff, a security-centric platform that also included an end-to-end encrypted email service. It’s no surprise, then, that Notion Mail takes some design cues from Skiff, but the company’s focus here isn’t so much security (although I’m sure that’s Notion’s top priority as well) but integration with Notion AI.
There appear to be two parts to the AI integration here: automatically organizing emails using the AI prompt as a sort of intelligent filtering mechanism, as well as the ability to let Notion AI handle tedious tasks like scheduling. It remains to be seen how well that works in practice, the company said. Process.
One great feature that Notion Mail will offer that I often wish Gmail would offer is that it not only allows for the use of different filters, but it also allows you to prioritize emails within filtered views. Gmail, on the other hand, only offers a Priority Inbox view in the main inbox, but when you go to any of its default categories like Forums, Updates, or Social, your only option is the reverse timeline view.
Another integration worth highlighting is Notion Calendar. Users will be able to add a scheduling button to their emails that links them directly to their calendars and availability.

In addition to Mail, Notion is also launching a number of other new features. This includes Notion Forms, which allows users to design forms and collect information, with Notion support as their database, as well as the ability to more easily customize layouts in Notion to better suit user preferences for how tasks, notes, documents, and more are displayed.
Notion is also launching some enhanced automation features, including the ability to link Notion and Gmail, for example, to notify people via Gmail. To complement all of this, Notion has updated its Marketplace with a redesigned web experience.
