Apple released iOS 18.2 as a user beta to developers earlier this week. While there are a host of AI features shipped with this release – including Gemmoji, Image Playground, and ChatGPT integration – the company also shipped a new default menu for changing your default apps. This is not limited to the web browser only, as you can change the default applications for messages and calls.
The company has only allowed changes to the default email app and browser app so far. These settings were located in the Safari and Mail menus. With iOS 18.2, there will be a dedicated menu to change all default apps.
“Manage your default apps for iPhone, including choosing which ones you prefer to use to open links on the web, send emails, make contactless payments, and more,” reads the description of the default apps list.
Here’s how you can get there:
- Go to the New Apps sections in Settings on iOS 18.
- Click on the Default Apps option under that.
- You can now select new default apps for email, messaging, calling, call filtering, and the web browser.
The default apps list also lists the number of password and symbol-related apps as well as keyboard apps you have installed. If you click on that menu, you can see a list of all these apps under these categories. You can also select the ones you want to access while filling in passwords or typing text.

Note that this option is currently available for iOS 18.2 beta users. Apple just released the first beta of iOS 18.2 this week. It will take a few weeks before it is available to download for everyone. We will update the story after it is released to a wider user base.
