WhatsApp users can now filter chats using custom lists

WhatsApp makes it easy to organize the numerous messages that fill your inbox. The messaging app announced Thursday that it is adding the ability to filter chats into customizable categories. This will help you keep track of conversations with family members, coworkers, college friends, and more.

The Custom Lists feature is an improvement to the chat filters that WhatsApp introduced in April. Previously, you only had access to three filters: All, Unread, and Collections. With the new update, you can now create your own lists, allowing you to focus on your favorite conversations at once.

To create a list, tap the plus sign (+) in the filter bar at the top of the Chats tab and name the list. You can then add anyone you want to the list, including both groups and one-on-one conversations. As more menus are added, you’ll be able to swipe the screen to navigate through the filters. Additionally, you can edit the list by long-pressing it and choosing to add or remove people or groups.

By default, WhatsApp will keep the “All” category open, which displays all messages in chronological order.

Custom Lists are rolling out today and will become available to everyone in the following weeks.
