Google Chat is rolling out instant audio meetings — similar to Slack’s Huddles — that let you quickly switch to a voice or video call from within a chat. Google didn’t give this feature a new name, though, and chose to call the feature “Huddles” as well.
If you’re in Google Chat, you can quickly start messaging by tapping the drop-down menu next to the contact icon and then selecting the “Start Messaging” option.
The call will default to a voice call, but users can play video or share their screens, just like with Google Meet.
The feature, which Google first announced last year as part of a Google Chat update, will be rolled out starting today and will be available to all Workspace users in the coming weeks.
