An Apple employee has filed a lawsuit against the company over monitoring employees’ personal devices

An Apple ad tech employee filed a lawsuit against his employer on Sunday over how the company monitors its employees. Semaphore reports.

Apple wants its employees to use Apple devices for work, but work-issued devices are so restrictive that many employees use personal devices, or link their work devices to their personal iCloud. To do that, the lawsuit says, employees must allow Apple to install software that gives Apple access to search anything stored on the device or iCloud. The lawsuit alleges that Apple’s policies allow it to monitor workers even outside of work hours. The employee claims Apple used its policies to hurt his employment prospects.

The lawsuit highlights some of the challenges many corporate workers face: How much visibility should an employer have over personal devices when they are used for work, or control over personal codes of conduct? If Apple loses, it could curb the growing trend of malware in the workplace. Apple did not comment to TechCrunch, but told Semafor that it strongly disagrees with the allegations in the lawsuit.
