Fama gay-owned brand discovery platform, was created by BIPOC queer couple Kat Perez and Mariana Di Regulo to help users find LGBTQ-owned businesses. A new social media app for LGBTQ+ professionals and business owners to connect and collaborate is now launching.

FamConnectAvailable now on iOS and Android devices, and includes common features such as a feed for sharing and discovering posts, direct messaging, and a section for managing and growing communications. However, what sets it apart is its focus on creating a safe and inclusive space for LGBTQ+ professionals to participate authentically.

The launch of a new social networking app designed specifically for LGBTQ+ professionals is timely and important. LGBTQ+ individuals often face discrimination, microaggressions, or bias in professional settings, and it can be difficult to find support on mainstream networks that don’t address their specific challenges. Additionally, they may not feel comfortable disclosing their sexual orientation or gender identity on platforms like LinkedIn for fear that it will harm their career prospects.

Famm Connect aims to offer a better alternative to the main platforms, providing a space for users to easily find others who understand their experiences and challenges while also allowing them to celebrate their identity rather than hide it.

“It’s very clear that there’s not a lot of representation when it comes to LGBTQ+ entrepreneurs, founders, and business owners,” Perez told TechCrunch. “We have to look to each other to support each other when it comes to building and growing our businesses and figuring out how to spend our queer money in queer businesses. We have to support each other, especially now.”

Although the basic functionality of the app is fairly straightforward, one notable feature is its “open for” tags. These tags can be added to a user’s profile to indicate their purposes for using the app, such as being open to coffee chats, mentoring and volunteering opportunities, and more. This ensures that when users communicate with others, they do so intentionally rather than just being spammed.

With approx 1.4 million LGBTQ-owned businesses Operating in the US, Famm also plans to include listings for businesses to advertise their products and services. Perez points out that it is difficult for business owners to advertise on larger platforms, since they offer a service or product that uses certain terms that can get… They have been flagged or blocked. Business Listings is currently free, but the platform will soon offer premium business profiles for $20 per month or $200 per year.

Some of the other features Famm is creating include a dedicated section for in-person networking events as well as job listings and sponsored posts.

The application is free to download. It operates on an invitation-only basis and allows unlimited referrals.
