Instagram is upgrading direct messages with a focus on content creators

Instagram on Friday announced an update to DMs, its direct messaging inbox, that will improve the experience for those who receive a lot of incoming messages, such as creators and influencers. Now, the app offers tools that allow users to sort and filter their “message requests” — that is, those messages that don’t make it to their main inbox, based on user-defined controls.

The new tools will give users the ability to sort and filter these message requests by number of followers, verified accounts, brands, creators, and other factors. This will help the creator better identify higher-priority messages that may be worth responding to because of the impact they could have on the creator’s business and relationships.

Additionally, a new “Story Replies” folder will be added to make it easier to access story replies in one place.

The company said the changes were introduced after hearing from content creators around the world about how difficult it is to manage their direct messages.

“Now, when you go to your order inbox, it can sometimes be confusing,” Adam Mosseri, head of Instagram, said in a blog post. mail On the social network. “Sort and filter” options will appear in an overlay at the top of the inbox, where users can choose to sort requests by recency or by the number of followers the sender has, helping to highlight those messages that may be from other creators or brands reaching out about commerce deals. Additionally, they can select or deselect other options to narrow down what is displayed by factors such as whether the account is verified, a business account, a creator account, one with a certain number of subscribers, and more.
