Rotors. They’ve cornered Clark Griswold on “European National Lampoon’s Vacation” and now they’ve stumbled upon a Waymo robotaxi.
A video It’s circulating on social media and shows a Waymo robotaxi spinning around and around on a roundabout – as if stuck in a loop. A Waymo spokesperson told TechCrunch that there were no passengers on board the vehicle in the video, and said the company had already addressed the issue by deploying a software update to its fleet.
TechCrunch asked Waymo for more information on the underlying logic that led to this strange behavior and how engineers ended up debugging such a unique scenario.
Videos capturing strange behavior of robo-taxis have become more widespread in the past year, especially in San Francisco — a hub of self-driving vehicle activity. For example, earlier this year, one woman created a live stream that showed Waymo cars honking throughout the night in a parking lot near her apartment in San Francisco.
