Tesla Officially Entering Nepal: EV Prices will cheap by 40%

Tesla, the world-renowned electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer, is officially entering the Nepalese market. The company will launch its EVs in Nepal under the dealership of Tesla Nepal, which has gained recognition as the authorized distributor.

This marks the first time Tesla will have an official presence in Nepal, a country considered a new market for the brand. Unlike its primary markets, where Tesla invests directly, the company will operate in Nepal through a certified dealer model.

Tesla’s Entry into Nepal: A Major Milestone

According to Surendra Koirala, CEO of Te’sla Nepal, the dealership agreement was signed with Tesla’s headquarters in Texas, USA. Tesla has adjusted its strategy post-COVID-19, opting to collaborate with trusted partners in select markets. This move has paved the way for Nepal to secure official dealership rights.

Why Will Tesla Be Cheaper Now?

Previously, Te’sla EVs were imported through third-party dealers, incurring significant local taxes and additional costs. However, with official dealership rights, Tesla Nepal will import vehicles at manufacturing prices, drastically reducing costs.

Service Centers and Charging Infrastructure

Te’sla Nepal is committed to providing a comprehensive EV ecosystem:

  • A supercharger network capable of charging up to five vehicles simultaneously will be installed near the service center.
  • The network will support rapid charging, delivering up to 80% charge in just an hour.
  • Plans to expand charging stations beyond Kathmandu Valley to cities like Pokhara, Chitwan, and Biratnagar are underway.

The company has identified six major clusters for Te’sla operations: Kathmandu, Pokhara, Chitwan, Butwal-Bhairahawa, Biratnagar, and Jhapa. Each cluster will have showrooms, service centers, and charging networks.

Te’sla Nepal: Bridging the Gap

For years, Tesla EVs in Nepal were imported by private entities, lacking official authorization. Without an authorized distributor, the country had no Te’sla-certified service centers or charging networks.

Te’sla Nepal will address these gaps by:

  • Establishing Tes’la-certified service centers.
  • Employing trained engineers certified to repair Te’sla vehicles.
  • Collaborating with Te’sla Singapore and Hong Kong for customer service and experience monitoring.

When to Expect T’esla in Nepal?

Tes’la Nepal is in the process of opening Letters of Credit (LCs) to facilitate imports. After securing necessary approvals, the first batch of Tes’la EVs is expected to arrive by February 2025.

Conclusion

Tes’la’s official entry into Nepal signals a transformative shift in the EV market. With lower prices, robust service networks, and advanced charging infrastructure, Te’sla Nepal is set to make EV ownership more accessible and sustainable.
